Friends Of Staplegrove School (FOSS)

Friends Of Staplegrove School (FOSS)

FOSS is a group of enthusiastic parents, carers and family members whose aim is to enhance and enrich the children’s school experience.

Our main focus is on fundraising, through events such as our school discos, cake and uniform sales, spring bingo and our Christmas and Summer fairs. We aim to make our fundraising efforts both effective and affordable as we feel strongly that every child in the school should be able to take part in and enjoy all of our events. During the 2017-2018 school year we raised £9142.68! Some of this money went towards a long awaited refurbishment of the playground, which now looks amazing and is such a joy for our children! Some of the other things FOSS have paid money towards are a Chinese Dance Workshop and Planetarium Dome for the whole school to experience, Roman topic work for years 3 and 4, Eddie the Explorer for KS1 during book week, learning resources for Elm class and a Fizz Pop Workshop for years 5 and 6.

Another way in which FOSS supports the school is by holding working days where we help freshen up the outside areas around the school. This can include tasks like painting, cleaning and gardening. Last year we even cleared the school of snow, while some of the younger kids made snowmen! For months Chris Laitt has had a real labour of love at the school, refurbishing the ship which now looks absolutely amazing and is a great bonus to the playground. Just one example of the amazing work individuals in FOSS do for our school.

One of our most enjoyable events of the year is the Christmas dinner and visits from Father Christmas. For Christmas dinner FOSS supply all of the children with Christmas crackers and a drink and the members of FOSS serve lunch to the children. On the same day some members of FOSS dress up as elves and help Father Christmas to deliver presents to the children. We are always met with lots of happy smiles and laughter and it's an amazing day to be part of.

Can you help us?

FOSS are always looking for more help. We welcome new members at any of our meetings and are always happy for people to help plan events or come up with new fundraising ideas, but this is not the only way you can help.

Can you spare an hour to run a stall at one of our events or 45 minutes to sell cakes after school?

Could you come along to one of our working days and offer skills and labour for a few hours?

Could you come and supervise at a school disco?

Any way that you can help us can make a big difference and help us to continue being able to run our events. FOSS is very welcoming and friendly, our children come along to all of the events we run and it is lovely to see them so eager to help out and playing so nicely together with children from all year groups. FOSS is a great way for your child to make friends across all the classes and to feel part of a special community.

If you think you could help out in any way at all, please let us know. You can catch one of us in the playground, ask a teacher to put you in touch with us, contact us on our Facebook page – Friends Of Staplegrove School or come along to one of our meetings.

If your employer runs a matched funding scheme then your help could be even more beneficial to us.
