Sports Day 2014

What a lovely day!  The weather was amazing and the children did so well in all of the activities.  Well done to all!

Please can you ensure that you send your child to school with a hat during this lovely weather.  If they have sun cream they will need to put it on themselves, but we will remind them before playtime or outdoor PE.  Please also make sure that they have a drink bottle.

Year 6 Play Leaders games session.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to be invited to a games session held by the year 6 Play Leaders.  The children were introduced to dodgeball and catchball - which were great fun.  The year 6 children chose children from each house team to recieve awards for good sportsmanship.  Well done year 6, we had a great time!

Kandinsky Art Day and Art Show in KS1

On the last Friday before half term, we had an amazing day, when artist Sarah Jobling came into school to help us create our own version of Kandinsky's Tree.  We used stencils to create the bark, and cut out fabric flowers and leaves.

In the afternoon, we displayed all of our half term's homework as an art show.  Well done everyone for a fantastic effort.

All of the children's art work will be displayed in St John's Church on the weekend of 14th June 2014.

Drama in Beech!

On Thursday, we practised our story telling using drama.  We split into groups, and gave ourselves roles such as actors, directors and  props managers.  Then we worked together as a team to create our part of the story of Peter and the Wolf using only freeze frames.  This meant that we had to use facial expression and body language to help tell the story.  See whether you can tell the story by looking at our photographs.  Click on the link below.

Tennis Taster Session 30th April 2014

Our first task this term was to develop our skills as independent learners.  We met our knitted helper-Independent Joe.  He reminds us of what we need to remember if we are going to be great learners!

Well done to The Brendons who won the team points 6 times this term. They enjoyed lunch in the classroom with Mrs Symonds, Mrs Cramp and Miss Harrison

We have come to the end of a fantastic half term of chocolate delight.  The children have worked so hard.  We hope that everyone has a fantastic Easter break, and that the children come back refreshed and ready for an exciting Summer Term.
Look out for photographs of our trip to the Cheddar Chocolate Company - coming soon!!

Pancake Day (or Shrove Tuesday as we learnt in RE) This is us making pancakes. They were delicious. We have been learning about mass and capacity this week, and we were able to use our new skills to help us make our pancake mixture.

We are learning  how to make things move on the computer using coding.  If you want to try this at home, has a simple programming session called "an hour of code".  Have a go!

Where the Wild Things are WOW morning

Yesterday, we began our literacy topic Where the Wild Things are.  We watched a DVD of the story, and then we acted out parts of it.  We "sailed off through night and day..." and ended up in the forest school, where we found the Wild Things hiding!  We had great fun looking for Wild Things before "sailing back over a year and in and out of weeks and through a day.." back to our classroom.

Look at what we do at Forest School. It's been quite cold!

Beech Class Christmas Party Day 2013

Beech Christmas Party Day

Yesterday was our Christmas Party.  We had great fun making peppermint creams and salt dough decorations.  We made party hats and had a party lunch.  We even had a visit from someone really special, who gave us a present if we had been on the good list...

Beech class had great fun learningThe Snow Lambs, role playing and playing with the small world farm.  This has also tied in nicely with our topic of The Grumpy Sheep.  We have had great fun making indoor snow as well as our very own indoor snowman.
