Reading and Writing:

Renoir's Blue Umbrellas. Cherry and Elm Class worked together.

Book Character Parade

Elm Class had a brilliant time dressed up as a book character. We joined everyone in the hall to parade our outfits on stage to the rest of the school. Elm Class all looked fantastic!

Eddie the Explorer

Today we were visited by Eddie the Explorer! He taught us all about the country Africa and the animals that live there. Some of the children dressed up like the animals and we learnt some interesting facts. We also pretended to be baby lion cubs. He told us a story called The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo, which we helped him to act out. We all had a fantastic afternoon!

Look What's Growing!

For our Jack and the Beanstalk topic, Elm Class planted beans and watched them grow. They are now growing in our garden.

Science Week

Elm Class had a fantastic time during Science Week. We were given the task of investigating what happened to food when it was cooked.

We looked at a raw egg, and then an egg after it had been boiled. We talked about the changes that had happened. We then used the cooked egg to make ourselves some egg sandwiches!

We looked at a bar of chocolate, and then we watched how it changed when it was put it over hot water. We learnt that it was melting. We used the melted chocolate to make our own Easter nest cakes...yummy!

Egg Key Task

Thank you for completing the home key task. The decorated eggs looked fantastic! Very imaginative and creative. The children enjoyed sharing what and how they had decorated it.

Chinese New Year

Elm Class have had a fantastic week learning all about the Chinese New Year. We have been decorating Chinese dragons, making Chinese fans and creating our own Chinese New Year stick puppets. We had an excellent time taking part in a Chinese dancing workshop which we then performed in front of the whole school! We ended the week with tasting different Chinese food; some we liked and some we didn't!

Langford Lakes

Elm Class had a brilliant morning at Langford Lakes. We learnt lots about the Christmas trees. We learnt about how they grow and how you can tell how old the trees are. We learnt about the animals that like to live in the trees, and the bunnies that like to eat them! We collected lots of interesting things from the forest floor like moss, pine cones and seeds. We ended our visit with a Rumpus through the forest! The children had a fantastic time, and the owner commented on how well behaved all the children were.

'Where the Wild Things Are' Rumpus

Elm class had great fun at the Wild thing Rumpus at the beginning of term. We wore our onesies and stomped and danced to Rumpus music. Since then we have been learning the story using a story map, making puppets and modelling wild things from dough.

Children in Need

Elm Class all looked great in their spotty clothes. We talked about what Children in Need was. We talked about our school value 'Generosity' and how they have been generous by giving their pounds and pennies for others who need them. They had a great time placing their pennies on the penny line. You were all so generous that we couldn't put them all on by ourselves! Thank you all so much!

The Creation Story

Elm Class have been learning about the Bible, and we have started learning about one of the stories from it -  the Creation Story. We listened well as Mrs Lewis told us the story, and then we all talked about our favourite things that God created. We then retold the story to each other in our own learning time.

Elves and the Shoemaker

Elm Class had a delivery sent to them...a letter and a giant shoe! It was from Mr Shoemaker asking for help to find his lost shoes. Elm Class were brilliant and quick at finding them, and Mr Shoemaker thanked them by gifting them with a story - The Elves and the Shoemaker. We will continue learning about the story over the next few weeks.

Our Christian Values

We have been learning about what it means to be a church school, and the importance of our Christian Values. We looked at our school Values tree and made our own for our class using our hand-prints. We have been thinking and talking about the Values 'Friendship' and 'Thankfulness'.

First few weeks in Elm

We are very pleased to say that the children have settled beautifully. Here are some photos of their first few weeks.
