Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium Grant is funding which comes direct from the Government and is designed to
help ‘disadvantaged’ children to do well at school.

The funding is allocated to schools for children from Reception to Year 11 who have registered for Free School Meals (FSM) in the past six years, or are in care (LAC), adopted or have had parents in the armed forces within the past 5 years.

“Schools will have the freedom to spend the Premium, which is additional to the underlying
schools budget, in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most
vulnerable pupils.” DFE Website.

The Pupil Premium funding has never been more essential then at this moment in time. The effect of lockdowns and subsequent school closures has had a disproportionately detrimental impact on disadvantaged children, both in terms of academic progress and attainment as well as mental health and well-being. This is seen across the country, and indeed the world.

Our duty, as a team, is to work tirelessly to accelerate the progress within reading, writing and maths for these children. For this reason, the vast majority of our Pupil Premium Grant spend is targeted at supporting children in their academic learning to ensure they fulfil their potential. We have carefully assessed children to identify individual and more global gaps in knowledge and understanding and ensured the PPG spend is used to rapidly close these gaps.

We must also not forget the wider implications of the global pandemic on the children in our school and the community which surrounds it. Therefore allocations have been made to enable us to better keep children safe and well, both physically and mentally, to ensure they are able to grow and flourish in the world in which they live.

Please see the current document below for a more detailed breakdown of our spending.
