'That they may have life, life in all its fullness' John 10:10

Rowan Class

Today the children had lots of fun retelling their fables through drama.  Next week they will be writing their fables and creating a book to share with Elm & Beech class.

Rowan class had great fun this morning measuring and comparing capacity and marking numbers on a number line.  We made the most of the beautiful weather and worked outside on the playground.

Eddie The Explorer

To celebrate Book Week Eddie the Explorer returned to Rowan class to talk about a famous story written by the author  Michael Morpurgo 'The Butterfly Lion'.  The children loved acting out parts of the story and had a great time.

The Royal Wedding

The children have had a fantastic day celebrating the Royal wedding and enjoying a Royal tea party!  They made crowns and tiaras, decorated biscuits and cakes, made sandwiches and even wrote their own menus for the day!  The all looked great in their red, white and blue!

Maypole dancing

The children in Rowan & Elm had a great time this afternoon practising their skipping and maypole dancing!

Rowan have enjoyed a lovely maths lesson out in the sunshine measuring every child in the class and trying to work out the difference between the shortest and tallest member of Rowan class.

Poetry Slam

What a lovely afternoon watching the children share their poems so confidently.  Thank you to all the parents for your continued support, helping them to learn their poems and coming to watch them perform.  I know the children really enjoyed themselves.

Science Week

The children have had lots of fun this week sorting different materials and thinking about their properties.  They have carried out floating and sinking experiments and then had a go at making boats.

Spring Intrasport

The children had a great PE lesson this week working on their throwing and catching skills in their House teams.

As part of Science week Rowan class were very lucky to be visited by Mr Tremain and Mr Chidgey from Premier Sport.

They spoke to us all about the 4 key principles to keep healthy

  • Eat well
  • Drink well
  • Sleep well
  • Move well

The children learnt so much whilst having lots of fun and getting to try lots of delicious fruit and vegetables.

Explorer Day

Rowan class had a fantastic morning when we were visited by Eddie The Explorer who took us on an expedition to Antartica.

Inter-Faith Day 18.1.18

Rowan had a wonderful day for Inter-Faith day.  We were researching 'why light is such an important symbol?'

We looked at the story of Rama and Sita from the Hindu religion and learnt all about Diwali the Festival of Lights.  The children had a fantastic time, designing and creating lanterns, colouring Rangoli patterns and making sweets.

After fastening their seatbelts, Beech and Rowan classes "jetted" off to Kenya for the day.  They then exchanged the plane for minibuses to go on a "virtual safari". After that they split into groups to complete four different activities.  They made a Swahili dictionary and learned how to sing "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' in Swahili as well as learning how to dance in a traditional African way.  Next they carved animals out of soap to create their own version of a Kenyan soapstone sculpture. After that they cooked some traditional Kenyan foods: Ugali and fried bananas. The fried bananas sprinkled with sugar and nutmeg were very popular! Finally they played some African games including "Shisimba" (similar to noughts and crosses) as well as Jenga which takes its name from the Swahili word for "build".

Year 2 Sports Festival

Rowan class have had a fantastic morning at Taunton Academy today taking part in some catching and throwing activities with children from other schools.

Values Day

The children enjoyed taking part in activities to celebrate the values Thankfulness and Generosity today.

What a fantastic PE lesson this afternoon.  The children were fantastic and could show excellent balance and teamwork skills.
