Welcome Rowan Class 2020-2021
Hello to you all from Miss Darrie
I am delighted to launch this Transition Page in preparation and in celebration of our forthcoming academic year together in Year 2. I feel very fortunate that I have had the pleasure of working with many of you over the course of this current year. I have had the opportunities to; share in your morning phonics sessions, welcoming you all into Rowan Classroom for our combined Year 1 and 2 workshops as well as teaching some of you during the Summer Term in-school.
Things that will be new:
- You will be taught in Rowan Classroom (the room next door to Beech Class)
- Your shed for storing your PE kit and bag (the shed next door to Beech Class’s)
- Sitting arrangements in the classroom (tables and children all facing forward)
- You will each have your own named tray in the classroom for storing your own school equipment.
Our first Topic as Year 2 is my very favourite of all!
We will be exploring the life of the Victorians.
Looking specifically at the children’s experiences of the Victorian era and comparing life then to life as we know it today. We will have several opportunities for some Victorian fancy dress and role play so if you wish to get some fun Victorian costumes together over the Summer holidays, that would be fantastic! J
We will begin our Writing journey in Year 2 sharing our current experiences as well as our Summer holiday news. Then we will move into some beautiful Victorian poetry that will link to one of our class displays.
As part of your transition activities, I would like everyone to colour and decorate a feather template (this will be shared with you) along with a postcard for you to tell me about yourself and your family. The feather will link to this thoughtful poem written by Christopher Logue.
