Year 6 SATs Revision

The children in Year 6 will be taking their SATs during the week of May 12th. This is an exciting opportunity for the children to show off what they have learnt. We will endeavour to make this week as fun and enjoyable as possible whilst complying with the requirements of the testing regime.

Please ensure children are in school in plenty of time each day and are well rested before and during SATs week - plenty of sleep, special meals, and relaxing diversions!

Schools are required to administer the following levels 3-5 tests:

·                                 English reading (comprehension)

·                                 English grammar, punctuation and spelling (spag)

·                                 Mathematics (Paper A, Paper B & Mental Maths)

Monday 12 May

Level 6 English reading test

Tuesday 13 May

Thursday 15 May

Schools may also choose to administer level 6 versions of these tests for those children who are already demonstrating attainment above level 5. Children who are entered in the Level 6 tests must achieve a level 5 in the levels 3-5 test and pass the corresponding level 6 test in the same year to be awarded an overall level 6 result. If the child does not pass the level 6 test they will be awarded the level achieved in the levels 3-5 test.

Half Term Sumdog Challenge

Well done to all those who took part in the Half Term Challenge.  As a class you answered almost 5000 maths questions!  Very well done to Danielle Frounks and Josh Lukins who made it to the top of the leader board and managed to answer 3500 questions between them.  Look out for the next challenge coming up soon.

Children in Willow class always have plenty to say, and have been taking part in debates as part of their Literacy this half term. In groups the children wrote and presented balanced arguments covering a range of topics that are important to them.

  • Should Year 6 children be allowed to walk to and from school without an adult?
  • Should all primary school children be in bed by 8 0'clock on a school night?
  • Do dogs make good pets?
  • Should children have to do homework in primary school?
  • Should children have to do P.E. in school?
  • Should children be allowed to play on game consoles or computers for more than one hour a day?
  • Should children be given 'pocket money' when they don't do jobs at home?

What do YOU think?

As part of our PSHE this term we had a visit from Buddy - The Childline mascot.

He came to talk to Year 5 & 6 about how Childline can help if we ever need someone to talk to.

Come in to class to see some of our fantastic posters and learn more !

Autumn Term Literacy

In our Literacy work this term we have covered:

The Nightmare Man (a suspense story),

Biographies (King Alfred The Great, Tudor Monarchs and other important people we like) and

The Snow Queen.

Alfred The Great visited us during one of our literacy lessons!

For our instructions we wrote a stomach churning revolting book.

Come into our class read them – You’ll be truly disgusted!

Maths - An area and perimeter lesson. How much would it cost to fence and resurface our playground?

Year 6 children in Willow class had the opportunity to gain their Bikeability Award.

“We learnt how to be safe on the roads while riding our bikes!” explains Paige Oxley.
