Cedar - Year 5

Welcome to Cedar Class 2026 - 2027

The class teachers are Mrs. Jones (Monday - Wednesday) and Mrs. Reed (Thursday and Friday). The children are supported by Miss Snowdon in the mornings and Miss Grice in the afternoons. 

• Learning practice is set on a Monday and is due in the following Monday. Please see below for further details.
• P.E days are Thursdays. Children are expected to come into school wearing their school uniform. P.E.

Learning Practice

• Children are provided with a learning practice books. The tasks will be set on a Monday and children will be expected to bring their books back marked the following Monday. 
• Below are the expectations for Year 5:

Daily: Fifteen minutes of reading a school reading book every night. Record in reading journal for each book read.

Daily: Times Table Rockstars – games-based website supporting times-table learning.

Weekly: 10 spellings for all children

Weekly: Maths and English grammar.

Our Class News:

Welcome back!

We have been so impressed with how positive the class have come back to school after the holidays and Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Reed have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everyone. 

We have focussed on grammar in English recapping key skills such as speech, formal and informal language and apostrophes.  In Maths we have worked on arithmetic skills and place value.  The children have begun their Geography topics on the Amazon and in Science 'Materials and their Properties'. 

The children have particularly enjoyed starting our new class book 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell, which begins very dramatically with a plane crash in the Amazon. 

Finally, the children had a very exciting assembly with Fizz Pop Science with demonstrations of huge bubbles, bubbles on fire and ever growing elephant tooth paste!
