Mental Health and Wellbeing

At our school, we place the mental health and wellbeing of every child at the heart of all we do, recognising its vital role in learning and development. Our strong vision, shared values and nurturing relationships between staff and pupils create a supportive community where children feel safe, valued and able to thrive.

As a proud member of the NHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST), we work closely with professionals to provide early support and guidance when it is needed. Through our use of the Zones of Regulation and a carefully planned PSHE curriculum, we equip children with the knowledge and strategies to understand and manage their emotions.

Our dedicated wellbeing ambassadors further champion this work, leading worships and initiatives such as our much-loved guinea pig project, helping to foster empathy, responsibility and a sense of belonging across the school.

Mental Health Support Team (MHST)

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Somerset is a partnership between Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Young Somerset, supporting children and young people aged 5–16 with their mental health and wellbeing in school.

They provide early help for mild to moderate difficulties through group work, one-to-one support and practical strategies, while also working with parents and school staff to build confidence and resilience.

Their aim is to offer timely support and advice so that children can manage challenges effectively and fully engage in school and everyday life.

5 WAYS TO WELLBEING

Good Mental Health is underpinned with Good Wellbeing.  Imagine your wellbeing as the foundations of a house, we often take it for granted and don't notice it until cracks start appearing elsewhere.  If the foundations aren't solid enough then problems show up in the house.  If our wellbeing is good, then the house is solid and we can carry on.  Wellbeing is crucial to good mental health; poor mental health is often correlated with poor wellbeing.  A good start to increasing positive mental health is to check out 5 Ways to Wellbeing and see how you can improve your own, and your child's, wellbeing.
